Still In Love With You

Everyone knows that nothing sells more than a group of hot teenage boys. Boy bands have been successful throughout time, however they’re careers are short lived. What happens? Those young fangirls grow up and the new generation don’t want to drool over the same boys as their older sisters. From Backstreet Boys and NSYNC to the Jonas Brothers and One Direction, I’ll admit I’m a huge fangirl at heart. While I could go on for hours about why I love these bands, this post will be about one.

Back in 2008, when I was just a little 8th grader, I discovered them while sitting in my grandmothers living room watching Disney Channel. A music video started,16 year old Nick Jonas started singing and I was hooked!

The concept of boy bands have still not been accepted by most. I would ask any of my friends (specifically the guys) if they listened to the Jonas Bros. and they’re response was always “ew no, I hate them”. And as any fangirl would, I’d defend my “future husband”.

I saw something in the Jonas Brothers that seemed unexplainable at the time. I was just in love. Thinking back on it now, I can see that it wasn’t just their looks. Their music was meaningful and relatable. This song especially was very important to me:

Got the news today
Doctors said i had to stay
A little bit longer and I’ll be fine
When i thought it’d all be done
When I thought it’d all been said
A little bit longer and I’ll be fine.
But you don’t know what you got ’til it’s gone
And you don’t know what it’s like to feel so low
And everytime you smile you laugh you glow
You don’t even know, know, know.
You don’t even know

All this time goes by
Still no reason why
A little bit longer and I’ll be fine.
Waitin’ on a cure
But none of them are sure
A little bit longer and I’ll be fine

A Little Bit Longer was written about Nick’s battle with diabetes. I was inspired and reassured that no matter what I was experiencing in life, (at that moment in life, my parent’s divorce) that I just had to wait “a little bit longer and I’ll be fine”.

Who knew that three brothers from New Jersey would steal the hearts of so many teenage girls around the world? They released 4 albums: It’s About Time, Jonas Brothers, A Little Bit Longer, and Lines, Vines and Trying Times. They starred in 2 Disney movies, Camp Rock (which aired the same day as my middle school graduation. My “graduation party” was in my friend’s basement where about 8 of us watched the movie and had an ice cream cake with the Jo. Bros. faces on it) and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, as well as their own Disney show, JONAS/Jonas L.A, and appearances in Hannah Montana.

Fortunately for my 13 year old self, I was able to go to the Burning Up Tour in August of 2008.

Once I was in high school, the inevitable happened. The boys grew up. Nick Jonas started recording his own album, Who I Am. Kevin Jonas got married and started a show on E called Married To Jonas. And I’m not really sure what happened to Joe . He released a few singles and dated a few models. It was a sad time for us fangirls. In 2013 the Jonas Brothers had “reunited” to only publicly declare their split a few months later before any new music was released.

Today Kevin remains happily married to his wife Danielle. They have a 1 year old daughter. I’m still unsure about Joe and Nick is still going strong in the music business with his current single, Jealous about his Miss Universe girlfriend, Olivia Culpo. (and yes, I am jealous that he’s dating her and not me. oh well)

The Jonas Brothers were one of my favorite bands while I was growing up and I will always love them… And don’t worry about me. One Direction has done a good job at taking over my heart since then.
