Now I wouldn’t be true to myself if I didn’t post a blog about my all time favorite genre, Gospel! I sing in a gospel choir myself so this is a genre that is near and dear to my heart. I love to listen to listen to gospel music and any music that has gospel influences. It’s surprising how many genres have gospel roots or influences.
Le’Andria Johnson isn’t my favorite artist of all time but she is my favorite artist for right now. In the first video she lets her background singers each take a turn to express themselves in their own way. Stephanie Fisher, who was the last woman to sing, is my vocal coach!
Le’Andria Johnson was the winner of a gospel singing competition called “Sunday’s Best” and since then she has toured nationwide and released four albums. She was homeless when she first came to audition and wasn’t sure if she’d be able to make all of the follow up auditions but she was determined. She never had any formal vocal training but she didn’t allow that to stop her and her efforts proved to be beneficial for her.
The judges were able to not only see her talent but the fervent desire she had to share her story and encourage others.
In this video you can get a glimpse of Le’Andria’s awesome range and her ability to whistle extremely difficult melodies. Le’Andria is exemplary because she can sing anything from gospel to jazz, and the blues. She’s just a talented artist all the way around.
