P!NK

Alecia Beth Moore, known in the spotlight as P!nk is a highly successful singer, songwriter, actress and dancer. She is even the occasional acrobat in her astonishing on-stage performances. P!nk started off her musical career singing in a few different girl bands until L.A. Reid offered her a solo recording contract with LaFace Records. Her first single was released in 2000 and reached number seven on the Billboard hot 100 charts. She released her first album, Can’t Take Me Home, in the same year and gathered a large fan base in countries around the world. The album’s success granted her new female artist of the year at the Billboard Music Awards. In 2001, P!nk won her first Grammy for her collaboration with Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, and Mya for their cover of “Lady Marmalade”.

Later in 2001, P!nk released her next album, Missundaztood, to give the world a glimpse into her personality as she felt like she has been giving off the wrong image. She worked on writing the album with Linda Perry. One of her hit singles from the album, “Don’t Let Me Get Me,” included lyrics about feeling inadequate in the music business. She writes, “LA told me, ‘you’ll be a pop star, all you have to change is everything you are.'” She continued to show the wold she will become a success by being who she is. When describing her own style she said, “I’m a tomboy, but I’m kind of a hippie and kind of a gangster.” She later released the song, “Stupid girls”, on her  fourth album,  I’m Not Dead, in 2006 which made fun of famous female stars like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson which was a huge hit. This album also included hits like “U + Ur hand”, and “Who Knew.” She also married motorcrossman Carey Hart in this year.

The power that P!nk has is in her creative lyrics, one of the most influential being, “Dear Mr. President.” This song was also released on her fourth album in 2006 as an open critical letter t0 President George W. Bush. She spoke on the Iraq War, the No Child Left Behind Act, his views on homosexuality, and the problems facing the poor in our country. The lyrics include the lines, “How can you say no child is left behind? We’re not dumb and we’re not blind, they’re all sitting in your cells, while you pave the road to hell.” She used her musical talents to speak on public issues facing our country and bring awareness. She has also worked with animal rights group PETA and is an outspoken supporter of the LGBT community. She is also involved in many different charity organizations.

P!nk has continued to release albums including Funhouse in 2008, and Greatest Hits so Far…!!! In 2010. Her more popular singles that came out of them were “Sober,” “Please Don’t Leave Me,” and “Fuckin’ Perfect.” She also has released that her personal relationship greatly influenced the lyrics for many of these songs. She gave birth to her daughter, Willow, with husband Carey Hart in 2011. Her latest album was released in 2012, The Truth About Love, which produced three hit singles that topped the billboard charts and continues to be a success. These included, “Try,” “Blow Me (One Last Kiss),” and “Just Give Me a Reason.” The album also lead to her most successful tour which was the third highest grossing tour of 2013. She also continues to write songs for some of the biggest names in music including Cher and Celine Dion. P!nk is best known for her versatility and outstandingly strong vocals, even featuring on famous rapper, Eminem’s song, “Won’t Back Down.” The 2013 woman of the year continues to be a growing national success.
